Chelsea FC are increasingly viewing Xabi Alonso as one of the leading names for their next manager role as the club prepares for another major summer.

According to reports from England and Germany, talks around Alonso inside Chelsea have been positive, with sources close to the situation claiming the Spaniard is open to managing in the Premier League if the right opportunity arrives.

Chelsea are believed to want a decision on their managerial situation before the Club World Cup begins, and Alonso has now emerged as one of the strongest names on their shortlist alongside Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, Oliver Glasner and Filipe Luís.

The growing interest in Alonso is not difficult to understand.

Over the last few years, he has become one of the most admired young coaches in Europe because of the way his teams play football. His work in Germany especially changed how many clubs view him. Alonso quickly built a reputation for organised attacking football, calm leadership, and strong tactical flexibility.

Many people inside football also believe his personality fits modern elite management. He handles pressure calmly, speaks clearly in interviews, and already carries the respect that comes from his playing career.

As a player, Alonso won almost everything in football.

He lifted the Champions League with both Liverpool FC and Real Madrid, won the World Cup with Spain national football team, and also became a major figure at Bayern Munich under managers like Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti.

That experience matters.

Chelsea’s owners are not only looking for a coach who can improve results immediately. They also want somebody capable of building a long term football identity around a young squad that still looks inconsistent in important moments.

That has been one of Chelsea’s biggest problems this season.

There have been games where the team looked exciting and full of energy, especially going forward, but there were also matches where defensive mistakes, poor finishing, and lack of control completely changed the result. Injuries have not helped either, with several important players missing parts of the campaign.

Because of that, Chelsea’s search is no longer only about tactics. The club want stability, leadership, and somebody who can develop young players properly over time.

Alonso’s coaching style is one reason many supporters are excited by the links.

His teams usually play with structure but still attack aggressively when space opens up. They press well, move the ball quickly, and look comfortable controlling possession under pressure. Those ideas fit the direction Chelsea’s ownership group appear to want.

Still, there are questions too.

Managing Chelsea is very different from managing in Germany. The pressure is heavier, the media attention is bigger, and patience inside the Premier League disappears quickly when results drop.

That is why Chelsea are taking their time before making a final decision.

For now, no agreement has been completed, but the talk around Alonso and Chelsea is clearly growing stronger as the summer approaches.
