The possibility of José Mourinho returning to Real Madrid is starting to feel real again.

It is not the first time Mourinho has been linked with a return to Madrid. Even after leaving the club in 2013, his relationship with Florentino Pérez remained strong. While many managers Shift away from Real Madrid after difficult exits, Mourinho always seemed different. Many people at the club still feel Mourinho has unfinished business at the Bernabéu.

This latest development comes during a frustrating period for Madrid. The club have struggled for consistency this season, fell behind FC Barcelona in the title race, losing to small clubs like Real Betis and others, and once again people said the squad was unbalanced and the defense wasn’t stable enough.

That is one reason Mourinho’s name keeps returning.

Even people who question his modern tactics still admit one thing: Mourinho brings control. His teams are usually organised, mentally strong, and difficult to break down. Madrid have looked chaotic at times this season, especially in big matches, and many fans believe the squad needs a manager with authority again.

During his first season at Madrid between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho helped change the mentality of the club. At the time, Barcelona were dominating Spanish football under Pep Guardiola, and Madrid often looked second best in the biggest games.

Mourinho changed that rivalry completely.

He won the La Liga title with a record 100 points, lifted the Copa del Rey, and took Madrid to three straight Champions League semi-finals. More importantly, many people inside the club still believe he helped build the mentality that later led to Real Madrid’s dominance in Europe.

Of course, not everybody is convinced this return would work.

Some critics believe Mourinho is no longer the same manager who once dominated Europe with FC Porto, Chelsea FC and Inter Milan. His recent jobs have produced mixed reactions, and there are concerns about whether his intense style still connects with modern dressing rooms.

Still, Mourinho remains one of football’s biggest personalities. His experience, confidence, and ability to handle pressure are qualities Real Madrid have always valued.

At Benfica, he has once again shown signs of stability. Reports in Portugal claim the club want to extend his contract quickly because they are aware of Madrid’s growing interest.

For now, nothing has been officially agreed.

But with Florentino Pérez now weighing his options, the idea of Mourinho walking back into the Santiago Bernabéu no longer feels impossible.
